Aromas of white grapes and toasted coconut praline are followed by flavors of poached pear, butterscotch and grilled pineapple.
The Chardonel and Semillon grapes were grown at White Squirrel Vineyards in West, TN, Beau Monde Vineyards in West TN also provided Chardonel grapes for this blend. The Viognier and Vignoles grapes were grown here at Arrington Vineyards.
This complex blend of Tennessee grown grapes was fermented in stainless steel tanks at cool temperatures to preserve the elegant fruit flavors. After fermentation, the wine was transferred to French oak barrels for 7 months of aging to soften the wine. We then transferred the wine into fresh Tennessee whiskey barrels for another 10 months of aging. The whiskey barrels added a creamy butterscotch flavor and texture with a long-lasting flavor.
We use freshly emptied whiskey barrels for aging this wine. A recent change in federal law allows us to state “Aged in TN whiskey barrels” on the label. Though there are a few whiskey barrel aged white wines on the market today, Antebellum White Wine is totally unique to AV.
